Service · Hire data engineers

Hire data engineers you have met, on a milestone you can check.

Hiring a data engineer through MV.tech means a named senior engineer, not a bench or a profile you never speak to. You brief the work, meet the person who will do it, agree the overlap hours in your local time and start on a written first milestone that is small enough to verify. You can hire through staff augmentation, as a scoped project, or through technology recruitment for a permanent employee in your own organisation.

The starting point

When should you hire a data engineer rather than wait for a permanent hire?

  • A permanent data engineering role has been open for months and pipelines, dashboards or a migration cannot wait for it.
  • Your analysts spend their week repairing SQL and spreadsheets instead of answering questions, and nobody owns the warehouse.
  • You need a fractional data engineer for a few days a week rather than a full-time salary and the hiring process that comes with it.
  • A warehouse migration or BI rebuild needs a senior person for its discovery, modelling and reconciliation phases, then far less.
  • You have tried an offshore staffing vendor and received a rotating cast of juniors behind an account manager.
  • Your team needs an AI or automation engineer who understands the data behind the model, not only the model.
  • You want to hire a remote data engineer in India with agreed overlap hours and written scope, or a permanent hire found through technology recruitment.

What we deliver

What do you actually get when you hire a data engineer from MV.tech?

01

A named senior engineer, introduced before anything is signed

You meet the engineer who will do the work, review their experience against your stack and agree the role with them directly. The person you meet is the person who does the work; there is no bench, and you work directly with whoever writes the code.

02

Data engineers for pipelines and cloud warehouses

Engineers who build and maintain Python and SQL pipelines from APIs, databases, files and SaaS tools into BigQuery, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift or PostgreSQL, with retries, logging, backfills and data quality checks. In a previous engagement at RootstockLabs, MV.tech's founder migrated HubSpot ingestion from Skyvia to Hevo, cutting the full-data load from 2 hours 45 minutes to 5 minutes.

03

Analytics engineers and BI developers

Specialists for raw, staging, curated and reporting layers, fact and dimension models, source-to-target mapping and reconciliation, and dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio or Streamlit. They define KPI ownership and document what each dashboard can and cannot prove.

04

AI and automation engineers

Engineers for RAG systems, MCP servers, custom AI connectors and scheduled automation that connect models to your databases, APIs and internal tools. The work starts from the data and permissions involved, which is why these roles sit alongside the data engineers rather than apart from them.

05

Cloud data engineers

Engineers who set up and operate data platforms on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, including Azure Data Factory, scheduled jobs, access control and monitoring. They work in your cloud account and your repositories, agreed before work begins, and hand over runbooks and recovery notes where needed when the engagement ends.

06

Agreed seniority and overlap hours

Every engineer is senior enough to shape scope, write acceptance criteria and challenge a brief, not only execute tickets. Overlap hours are written in your local time before the start, for example 9:00 am to 1:00 pm US Eastern or 9:00 am to 3:30 pm in the UK. MV.tech's founder holds the Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification.

07

A written first milestone with acceptance criteria

Before work begins, the first deliverable, the systems involved, how correctness will be checked and the review date are written down. It is the basis on which you decide to extend, change the role or stop.

08

Three ways to hire

Embed an engineer or a small team in your workflow through IT staff augmentation, give MV.tech a scoped project to own, or use technology recruitment to hire a permanent employee into your organisation. The arrangement is reviewed as priorities change; recruitment is a separate engagement with its own scope and commercial terms.

A useful first project

How does hiring a data engineer through MV.tech start?

It starts with a brief, not a contract. You describe the work, the systems, the timezone and the deadline on a scoping call, and we propose a named engineer and a first milestone small enough to verify: one pipeline, one reporting model, one dashboard set or one migration slice, with written acceptance criteria and a review date. The engineer works in your tools and your agreed overlap hours, posts written updates and ships something checkable by the review date. At the review you decide whether to extend into a longer embedded arrangement, hand over a larger scoped project or begin a permanent search for the same kind of role. The trial milestone is what reduces the risk: you judge the person on delivered work, not on a CV alone, and the decision to continue is yours.

Working together

A practical path from scope to delivery.

  1. 01

    Brief and match

Share the workstream, required skills, timezone and duration. We propose a named senior engineer and you meet them before anything is agreed.

  2. 02

    Agree the first milestone

Write down the deliverable, acceptance criteria, overlap hours, repositories, access and review date so both sides know what done means.

  3. 03

    Deliver, review and decide

The engineer ships the milestone with written validation; you then extend the engagement, change its shape or close it on evidence.

Before we begin

Questions people ask before hiring a data engineer.

Not answered here? Ask us directly or read the full FAQ.

How much does it cost to hire a data engineer from India?

We quote after a scoping call. The figure depends on the role, seniority, allocated capacity, duration and the support expected outside overlap hours, so a number before that conversation would be a guess. MV.tech's remote model keeps office and account-management overhead out of the price, and we ask you to compare proposals on the same scope, seniority and support expectations.

Can a remote team in India work in our timezone?

Yes. India Standard Time overlaps every major business region for part of the day, and we agree the window in your local time before the engineer starts. Typical windows are 9:00 am to 1:00 pm US Eastern, 7:00 to 10:00 am US Pacific, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm in the UK, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in Central Europe, most of the day in the Gulf and 12:30 to 6:00 pm in eastern Australia. Overlap does not mean round-the-clock support; any out-of-hours coverage is written into the scope separately.

Can we hire a fractional or part-time data engineer?

Yes. A fractional arrangement of a few days a week suits a small team that needs senior judgement on pipelines, warehouse modelling or BI without a full-time hire. The capacity, the days and the overlap hours are agreed up front, and the engineer stays the same person for the duration rather than whoever is free that week.

Will we get a named engineer or a bench?

A named engineer. You meet the person before anything is signed, review their experience against your stack and work with them directly for the duration. If the engagement grows into a team, composition, start dates and availability are confirmed during scoping rather than implied by the website.

What is the difference between staff augmentation, a scoped project and recruitment?

With staff augmentation the engineer works inside your team under your leads' direction for an agreed capacity and duration. With a scoped project MV.tech owns a defined deliverable, its acceptance criteria and handover. With technology recruitment you hire a permanent employee into your own organisation and agree employment terms with them directly. We clarify which arrangement you need before discussing candidates or consultants.

How does a trial milestone reduce the risk of hiring remotely?

Because you judge delivered work rather than an interview. The first milestone is small, written down and checkable: a pipeline that reconciles to the source, a model whose figures match the ones people report, a dashboard with documented definitions. If the result or the working relationship is not right, the engagement ends at the review with the work and its documentation handed over.

What should we share before asking to hire a data engineer?

The workstream or backlog, the source systems and target warehouse or BI tools, the skills you need, the expected duration and capacity, your timezone and the hours that matter, and any constraints around security or access. A sanitised example of the data is enough for the first call; credentials are never needed for an enquiry.
